Welcome Message from the President and Organising Chairman
Dr Neoh Siew Hong
President
Perinatal Society of Malaysia
Greetings on behalf of the Perinatal Society of Malaysia! A heartfelt welcome to our esteemed invited speakers and delegates at the 30th Regional Congress, a collaborative effort with Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Melaka (Melaka State Health Department).
Our society is dedicated to advancing continuous medical education, a mission reflected in this annual congress. It serves as a platform for perinatal healthcare professionals to update their knowledge, exchange ideas, and build networks. In the face of a polycrisis era, marked by conflicts, climate change, the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and other global challenges, this congress is more pertinent than ever.
This year, our Scientific Committee has chosen the theme "Embracing SDGs – Engage, Educate & Empower." Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3 on good health and well-being, we aim to combat maternal, neonatal, and child mortality. While we've made strides, our work is far from over. Our maternal mortality ratio, though meeting the SDG target in 2022, at 26 per 100,000 livebirths demands continued efforts. The Under-5 Mortality Review 2016: Looking into Preventable Deaths found that 46.1% were preventable deaths. The SDGs call on us to end all preventable deaths in newborns and children under 5 by 2030. The Scientific Program and pre-congress workshops were thus planned to help meet the relevant SDG goals.
The organising committee chose Melaka, a city steeped in history, for this congress, coinciding with Visit Melaka Year in 2024. We encourage you to explore the rich historical sites and savour the local cuisine during your stay.
A special thank you to our invited speakers, facilitators, and sponsors for your invaluable contributions. May this congress be both enjoyable and fruitful for all involved.
